(Limited number of free spots available online. Call or stop by the studio if you want to sign up for a free spot and there’s not one available here.) Join long-time OffCenter teacher David Blecha for a weekly drawing workgroup on Saturday mornings! We’ll alternate between working from still life set-ups and drawing prompts, with opportunities for individual work and collaborations. Multilayer Screenprinting
Join us for multilayer screenprinting! This workshop will be a 3-session series over the course of 3 weeks. We will cover one method of screenprinting multiple layers using a sheet of transparency film to obtain accurate registration.

Gelli Printing & Mini Books
Artist, Michelle Holdt, to learn about Gelli Printing and to make Mini Books with our prints. Gelli printing is a printmaking technique that uses a flexible plate to create textures and layers of color. It's a type of monotype printing that doesn't require a press.
Michelle will provide the plates and OffCenter has the paper, paint, and supplies. Once we pull our prints we will take the artwork and create Mini Accordion Books with the prints. This class will be super hands on and FUN!

Teen Print Series: Monotype, Cyanotype & Drypoint Etching
In this three-day teen workshop you'll learn three different printmaking techniques: monotype, cyanotype, and drypoint etching.

Acrylic Painting - The Basics and Play
Acrylic painting 101. Learn about palette set up, choosing a surface to paint on, preparing a surface, paints and their properties, brushes, mark making and more. Then we will paint and play!
All materials provided. No experience required. Ages 16 and up.

OffCenter Puppet Crew - June
Come learn how to make marionette style puppets in this month’s drop in group to make, play, and talk about all things puppet related. Puppeteers and puppet makers of all skill levels welcome.

Junk Mail Journals: Accordion Books
Turn junk mail in the form of sturdy junk mail flyers into a fun and functional accordion style art journal. We will use painted packing paper to cover the accordion journal and create a palette for you to add your own art or collage. Please wear clothes appropriate for painting and glueing.

Indulge in creative expression! Using acrylic painting, collage and mark making we will explore the freedom of play and curiosity. Come prepared to experiment as you learn to express yourself in the aliveness of color, line and form.

Color Theory Workshop - July
There are an infinite number of color combinations; no two mixed colors are exactly the same. Learning more information about how colors interact can open up new ways to play around with whichever crafts we prefer! This workshop will introduce students to the foundations of color mixing theory using acrylic paints. We will go over the split primary color palette, which has warm and cool hues of red, yellow and blue. After mixing secondary and tertiary colors, students can play with mixing a variety of neutral browns, grays, and blacks starting from primary colors.

Sketchbook Drawing
Intimidated by blank pages? This class will give you tools to create your own studies, and use the humble sketchbook to improve your drawing skills. Explore drawing from life, prompt, and imagination with this introductory sketchbooking workshop! No experience required. Bring your sketchbook!

Write Your Year Writing Workshop - July
There’s a diverse and inviting tradition of daily writing as a way to document a year – or a life! In this generative writing workshop series we’ll look at (and create!) a variety of forms of writing meant to be used as a daily or weekly practice in the year ahead. Join us for one, two, three, or all four of these quarterly workshops.

Papermaking Workshop
Come learn how to build your own DIY mould and deckle and use recycled materials (papers, egg cartons, fabric) to make your own paper! In the first session of this workshop participants will build their own DIY mould and deckle. The second session will be all about making actual paper.

July - Historical Bookbinding: Coptic
The Historical Bookbinding Workshop series will teach three historical styles of bookbinding: Coptic, Ethiopian, and Byzantine.
In this first class in the series, students will learn how to make a blank notebook with a Coptic stitch binding. This class is very beginner friendly, and it is recommended to take this Coptic stitch class (or have previous Coptic stitch experience) before taking the next two classes in the series.

Join Pamela Heater and other painters to work on your personal painting projects during this free, open painting studio time! Bring work to complete or start new work. Intermediate Block Printing
If you have some relief printing experience and want to expand your knowledge, this class is for you! We recommend taking the Intro to Block Printing class before this one if you're new to printing. Over the course of two sessions, this class will dive deeper in linocut techniques. As opposed to the Intro workshop, we'll get into precise paper registration, printing on fabric, using a printing press, and carving into linoleum instead of soft rubber. Let's geek out about printmaking together!

July Learn to Sew: Sewing Machine 101
In this beginning sewing class, you will learn how the basic anatomy of a sewing machine, how to thread the needle and bobbin, and get to practice some basic machine troubleshooting, as well as get started on your first project - making a pin cushion.

Neurographic Painting - Acrylic
Dive into a vibrant new art form that transforms simple lines into stunning, abstract masterpieces! In this hands-on class, you’ll use flowing lines and bold acrylics to create fun patterns and unique shapes that reflect your personal creativity. Beginner-friendly for any artist — whether you’re just starting out or looking to try something new, this class is for you!

Coil Bowls Workshop
Come explore a simple and creative technique for making beautiful coiled bowls using just yarn and cotton cord — no sewing or glueing! This hands-on class is perfect for beginners and anyone looking to unwind, try something new, and connect with others in a relaxed, supportive space. Create a unique bowl, learn a new technique, and make new connections!

Open Mic Night - August
Join OffCenter for a night of performing arts! Share your own poetry, songs, improv, drag, or anything else! Please keep acts PG and family-appropriate, as this event is for all ages. Sign ups are first come first serve on the night of the open mic, and time slots are 5 minutes each. You must provide everything you need for your performance. All ages and experience levels invited.

August Lego Printmaking
In this class, you'll use flat LEGO tile blocks to create intricate patterns on a base plate that are then rolled through a press, leaving an impression of their original design. No experience necessary, all ages welcome (participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult).

Finger Puppet Workshop
Come join master puppeteer, Joyce DePow and learn to make simple felt finger puppets.

Eraser Block Printing - August
Join OffCenter for a fun single-session printmaking workshop to learn about block printing with erasers! We'll be using erasers and carving tools to create designs to print on paper. No experience necessary. Motor skills similar to those used to write with a pencil required.

Asemic Writing - August
Asemic writing is a hybrid art form that fuses text and image by retaining the physical characteristics of writing such as lines and symbols. How the marks are made is what conveys the meaning.
In this workshop, you will use your experience of handwriting texts to experiment with a variety of different mark making media, tools and surfaces. We will explore liquid media like ink and paint, dry media like crayons and graphite sticks. You will make a handmade calligraphy pen using a soda can.

Teen Series: Blockprinting
Join OffCenter’s printshop coordinator, Zimmy Chu and guest teacher Ruth Riley in this 3-day blockprinting workshop just for teens!

Learn to Serge!!!
Come learn to use a serger! While similar to a sewing machine, sergers are designed to finish raw edges of fabric and excel at working with jersey and stretchy fabrics. They often look intimidating, but are, in fact, pretty simple to use. In this class you will learn how to thread a serger (the hardest part), and get to experiment with using it.
Basic sewing machine knowledge preferred, though not required. All materials provided. However, if you have a serger and want to learn how to use it, please bring it.

Apron Making Workshop - June
Come make yourself an apron! In this sewing 201 level class, you’ll learn how to work with bias tape and how to sew on pockets!

Mini Watercolor Paintings
This may appear to be much like a standard watercolor class, and the process is extremely similar, however the emphasis of this class is placed on the scale of the piece and the execution of its final product. These are the only kinds of watercolor paintings I do and I find that as an artist, this is one of the easiest, cleanest, and most practical mediums I have ever worked with.

Write Your Self Portrait
In this writing workshop, we’ll use simple-to-respond-to writing prompts to create snapshots of ourselves. One of poetry’s super powers is using attention to small details to paint expansive pictures. We’ll play with a variety of poetic forms, to create distinct and layered portraits of ourselves, our stories, and our lives. You’ll create a new self-portrait of yourself through poetry – a way to see yourself and your stories in a new light.

Intro to Block Printing - May
Join OffCenter for a fun printmaking workshop to learn a 2-layer relief block printing process! We'll be using rubber blocks and carving tools to create designs to print on paper. No experience necessary. Motor skills similar to using a pencil required. All materials provided.

Mixed Media Jewelry
Join OffCenter studio manager and mixed media artist Ashley to create funky mixed media jewelry! In this class participants will combine different materials to make a wearable piece of art. Participants can create one or more pieces of jewelry. Some materials that will be used are metal components, papers, resin, beads, over baked clay, found objects, and more! All materials provided, but feel free to bring any extra materials you might want to incorporate.

Learn to Sew (Sewing Machine 101) - May
In this beginning sewing class, Alden Sobol will teach you all the basics of how to use a sewing machine: threading the machine, learning what all the knobs, buttons, and dials do, basic troubleshooting, and winding a bobbin. If time allows, you will get started on your first project - making a pin cushion.
No sewing experience necessary! Sewing machines and all materials provided. (Or bring your own sewing machine if you want to learn how to use it!) This class is perfect for you if you’ve ever wanted to learn to sew using a sewing machine, but felt intimidated, or not known where to start.

Junk Mail Pamphlet Stitch Binding
Turn recycled tissue box or other cardboard and junk mail into a fun and functional art journal. Using junk mail of all kinds, including catalogs, we will create a journal utilizing a simple pamphlet stitch to sew the binding. We will use paint and collage to embellish the pages and create a palette for you to add your own art or collage.

Macrame Yarn Plant Hangers
In this beginner friendly class, Steph will instruct attendees how to make macrame plant hangers using non-traditional materials, such as yarn, and cotton cord to create unique pieces to take home. She will introduce several foundational knots (square knot, half knot / spiral knot, barrel knot) that attendees can apply to future knotted creations!

Monoprinting - May
Join printmaker Adrian Ricca Lucci for a fun introduction to monoprinting! Learn a quick and easy method for printmaking with an etching press! Prints can be made in as little as five minutes, and every print is unique. No prior printmaking experience or fine motor skills are necessary to participate in this workshop.

Ekphrastic Poetry (Writing Inspired by Art) Workshop
Ekphrastic writing is inspired by the writer’s response to an artwork. It is more than just a description. It interprets the artwork by using the imagination. In the process, it amplifies and extends the source artwork’s meaning. As a result, it creates a dialogue between words and images that offers a new way of engaging with art.

Crochet Lantern Workshop - April
Develop your crochet skills by making your own funky lantern! This pattern by Gina Gallina is a fun project that's easier than it looks. In this two part class, we'll go over the crochet techniques used, and work through the whole pattern including shaping the lamp with glue and balloons! The only thing you'll need to add at the end is a lightbulb.

In this class we'll explore the many properties of watercolor paint in a relatively loose class layout, creating various small paintings from different prompts. This class is geared towards folks who have some watercolor experience and are looking for a fun, generative workshop with further exploration of the medium.

Poetry of the personal and political will cover the basics of poetry with a lens of sharing personal experiences within a larger political and socioeconomic ecosystem. How the intimate details of our lives can often be political in the way they impact our place in the world. No political agenda will be pushed in any way; this is an opportunity to explore your own place in the world and how poetry can help you understand/cope with that place.
