Asemic writing is a hybrid art form that fuses text and image by retaining the physical characteristics of writing such as lines and symbols. How the marks are made is what conveys the meaning.
In this workshop, you will use your experience of handwriting texts to experiment with a variety of different mark making media, tools and surfaces. We will explore liquid media like ink and paint, dry media like crayons and graphite sticks. You will make a handmade calligraphy pen using a soda/beer can.
We will also try using regular writing tools like pens and pencils in different ways as well as play with other “nonstandard writing tools” such as brushes made from feathers or unraveled string and found objects like sticks or strips of stiff cardboard.
