Quilters, Stitchers, Sewists: Learn to design and make unique fabrics to incorporate in your fiber art! Explore 3 techniques that can be used together or individually. Learn skills, have fun and leave each class with a stack of your own fabrics.

This class will meet on three Saturdays: May 23, 30, and June 6.

Week 1 - May 23 : Print/Stamp. Using everyday materials as well as blocks available in the print studio, we will explore direct printing on fabric. Introduction to textile inks, fabric choice, using a brayer, heat setting and pattern design. This class is the foundation for what follows.

Week 2 - May 30: Stencil. Using stencils available at Off Center as well as learning to design and cut limited-use stencils from easily available materials. Introduction to layering your patterns and more discussion of how to design based on how you plan to use your completed fabrics (quilting, slow stitching, garment-making).

Week 3 - June 6: Cyanotype. Harness the power of the sun on pre-treated fabric to develop patterns only you can imagine! This blue and white printing process results in beautiful, shaded fabric designs you won't find anywhere else.

Materials provided. If you have a favorite cover-up or apron, please bring. These are messy processes, old clothes recommended.

Refund Policy: All of our classes have limited capacity and often sell out. Please let us know if you are unable to attend a class you’ve registered for so we can open up the spot for someone else. If you would like a refund for your class registration fee, you must let us know at least 48 hours ahead of the class start time. Cancellations received within 48 hours or less of class start times are not eligible for refunds, but your class fee can be transferred to a future class registration instead. If you have questions about your class registration, or to request a refund or class transfer, please call, email, or talk to staff in person at OffCenter during Open Studio hours.

Why are there multiple prices? All of our classes are offered at a sliding scale, with a free option available to anyone that requests it. When possible, we make the base option available in order to partly cover the cost of the class. The core price is the "true" cost of the class OffCenter needs to cover paying our teachers and providing supplies and materials. If you are able to support at a higher level, paying the supporter price helps ensure we're able to continue offering a variety of classes and keep free spaces open for anyone that needs.

There are a limited number of free spots available online. If these are sold out, please email, call, or drop by the studio to sign up! Email info@offcenterarts.org.
