Figure Drawing Workshop Series

from $0.00

This workshop series will help artists develop both figure drawing and drawing from still life skills.

Create in a calm and focused atmosphere. We will practice simple but powerful drawing skills, such as blind contour drawing and gesture drawing, using short 10–15 minute timed exercises to help build confidence and expressive movement. Over the sessions, everyone will create a small portfolio to see their progress - from the first drawing to the last.

Participants will draw on large newsprint paper at standing easels. This setup supports good posture and makes it easier to switch from pencil lines to paint brush strokes. (Standing or use of a high stool or chair will be our starting set-up. Accommodations can be made as needed to adjust to different bodies’ needs. Reach out ahead of the workshop with questions.)

The room will be arranged in a circle to support community, conversation, and different points of view. We will also include fun exercises like rotating to another easel to draw the figure from new angles, helping participants learn flexibility and strong observation skills.

Session 1 - Feb 24 - 6-8 pm: an easy introduction to figure drawing and pencil posture, grey scale.

Session 2 - March 10 - 6-8 pm:
figure drawing plus a transition into still life drawing.

Session 3 - March 24 - 5-8 pm: a fuller experience with more time for practice, growth, and group feedback
NOTE: our final session on March 24 is 3 hours, from 5-8 pm.

Tuesdays, February 24, March 10, and March 24. (See details above on class times.)

At OffCenter Community Arts Project, 808 Park Ave SW, ABQ.

Tiered pricing: Free $0 / Base $45 / Core $90 / Supporter $135

Unless otherwise specified, OffCenter classes and workshops are intended for ages 16+.

Refund Policy: All of our classes have limited capacity and often sell out. Please let us know if you are unable to attend a class you’ve registered for so we can open up the spot for someone else. If you would like a refund for your class registration fee, you must let us know at least 48 hours ahead of the class start time. Cancellations received within 48 hours or less of class start times are not eligible for refunds, but your class fee can be transferred to a future class registration instead. If you have questions about your class registration, or to request a refund or class transfer, please call, email, or talk to staff in person at OffCenter during Open Studio hours.

Why are there multiple prices? All of our classes are offered at a sliding scale, with a free option available to anyone that requests it. When possible, we make the base option available in order to partly cover the cost of the class. The core price is the "true" cost of the class OffCenter needs to cover paying our teachers and providing supplies and materials. If you are able to support at a higher level, paying the supporter price helps ensure we're able to continue offering a variety of classes and keep free spaces open for anyone that needs.

There are a limited number of free spots available online. If these are sold out, please email, call, or drop by the studio to sign up! Email info@offcenterarts.org.
