Teacher bio: Alden Sobol (they/he) is a self-taught sewist who fell in love with sewing in 2018 and hasn’t stopped since. Custom made clothing is their favorite thing to sew, as they believe every body deserves to wear clothing that fits well and feels great. Though they aren’t very picky, and will gladly attempt to sew just about anything. Alden loves the therapeutic experiences of making art/being creative and infuses their classes with this idea. When not at home sewing, cooking, knitting, or reading, they can be found wandering through the Bosque, dancing, or biking. They work at OffCenter and, in addition to teaching sewing classes, facilitate Open Sew on Wednesdays from 6-8pm.
Materials required: You will need 1 3/4 yards of pre-washed and dried woven fabric, and 1 1/4 yard of 1 inch wide elastic. Quilting cotton and flannel are both great fabric options! Come check out OffCenter’s fabric supply at least a week before the class to see if there is something that will work for you.
This class requires basic sewing machine knowledge and skill. If you don’t already know how to use a sewing machine, please take the July Learn to Sew: Sewing Machine 101 and either the Sewing 102: Tote Bag Class or Sewing 201: Apron Making Workshop before taking this class.
Why are there multiple prices? All of our classes are offered at a sliding scale, with a free option available to anyone that requests it. The base price helps to cover costs and the core price is the "true" cost of the class OffCenter needs to cover paying our teachers and providing supplies and materials. If you are able to support at a higher level, paying the top supporter price helps ensure we're able to offer a variety of classes and always keep free spaces open for anyone that needs.
There are a limited number of free spots available online. If these are sold out, please email, call, or drop by the studio to sign up! Email info@offcenterarts.org.
